Our Story

Where it started

About thirty years ago, on one side of the country, Glen was born in Corvallis, OR to parents Julie and Eric. A few months later, about as far away as possible, Heather was born in Syracuse, NY to parents Jeanette and Craig. Along the way both sets of parents apparently thought they needed more children. Glen got a little brother, Don, and Heather a little sister, Alyssa. Glen grew up playing hockey, baseball, and lacrosse, He spent his summers going to hockey camps in Canada and regularly visiting his mum’s family in Australia. Heather stayed busy with as many activities as she could fit in, but eventually settled on a love of performing with her school’s color guard. Both were solid nerds.

How they met

In 2008, Glen decided to travel across the country for college, while Heather decided 1.5 hours from home was plenty. They met in their first class at RIT. Over the next 4 years they became friends. Heather always found excuses to ask Glen for help on projects, which he always did, even though he knew she didn’t need it. There may have been a crush blooming. During one of those nights working on homework, Heather gave Glen his first kiss.

Time apart

After college, Glen moved back out to the west coast to pursue agency life in San Francisco, CA. Heather made a quick detour to Buffalo and then headed south to start work at Lowe’s in Charlotte, NC. Over the years, Glen enjoyed city life and playing Xbox, while Heather spent her time on the lake and drinking beer. They each reached out to one another every once in a while over the years to catch up. Heather always kept their moment in college at the back of her mind, wondering if he was the one she let get away.

Together again

Life threw Heather for a loop when, having just purchased her first house, Google wanted to interview her. She flew out to the Bay Area and asked Glen if he wanted to have dinner while she was in town. They had dinner, Glen played tour guide to various SF hot spots, and even though her interview was the next morning, they ended up hanging out until after midnight. After getting the offer from Google, Heather rented out her brand new house, packed up her things and headed west.

Glen being the only person in town Heather knew, she forced him to leave his gaming chair and explore the city with her. After a few months of renewed friendship, the spark was lit and they were in love. Six months later, they moved in together. Glen inherited Heather’s dog, Remi, whom he loves. The pandemic started and they began the 17 month adventure of being together 24/7 by working remotely. They adopted an orange tabby kitten, Mango, who tragically passed a few weeks later. They met each other’s family and friends, travelling to all parts of the country. Eventually, they adopted another orange tabby, Echo, who is a lovable little monster.

Heather said yes!

She said yes!

On February 27, 2021, ring in pocket, Heather and Glen headed to Half Moon Bay Coastal Trail for an afternoon dog-walk. While standing on a cliff overlooking the ocean and the waning sun, they started talking about the previous year they had together. Glen said “If we can spend a year working from home together through a pandemic, we can spend a lifetime together”, stepped in front of Heather and knelt so that she was facing him and the sunset, and said “Ms. Heather Elwood, will you marry me?” He fetched the ring box from his jacket pocket and opened it, showing her the most beautiful ring. Elated, Heather said “Yes, of course!”. They both cried. They will be each other’s last kiss.
